The Articulus Children's Opera is delighted to announce a fantastic opportunity for our students provided in collaboration with the British School of Beijing and the International School of Beijing. The Articulus team is comprised of world class musicians based in China and abroad. Their work involves adapting the great operatic masterpieces for young performers. This educational outreach culminates in weekly training programme overseen by professional musicians and educators culminating in an exceptional performance opportunity at a state prestigious concert venue.

The production is made possible by the support and patronage of the German and Austrian embassies in China.

The Articulus Children's Opera and The British School of Beijing, Shunyi have already successfully staged many opera's in the past. This includes Verdi's La Traviata in June 2023 and Mozart's “The Magic Flute” in January 2023. In October 2021, “The Marriage of Figaro” was staged in celebration of 50 Years Diplomatic Relations between China and Austria. All were held at the Beijing Concert Hall and were a great success.

Carmen

In the year of 2024, the Articulus Children’s Opera will present the French composer Georges Bizet’s Carmen to the audience, which will be held at the Beijing Concert Hall on June 16, 2024.

Carmen is an opera in four acts by the French composer Georges Bizet. As usual we will re-arrange the opera’s libretto and music score to better suit a children’s ensemble. The music of Carmen has since been widely acclaimed for brilliance of melody, harmony, atmosphere, and orchestration. Depending on the reception from potential student groups, we would consider choosing the language in English. The performance will be held on June 16, 2024 at the Beijing Concert Hall.

Performance

The performance is accompanied by a full symphony orchestra comprised of talented young musicians from across China. Children who are fortunate enough to participate in the upcoming weekly programme will to be supported and trained by expert professional vocal and instrumental musicians. Children will learn how to perform these specially commissioned, child friendly versions of the score and libretto. Students will not only learn about the opera genre but also get the opportunity to perform on a professional stage.

Age: The programme is open to students who are seven years and older.

Audition Requirements:

Students can audition for two ensemble programmes that will take place simultaneously:

Vocal auditions: Students who are selected for this programme will be taught to perform on stage in costume as cast members.

Instrumental Auditions: Students who are selected will perform as members of a full symphony orchestra accompanying the performers on stage.

There are two parts of the audition:

(a) Contextual knowledge

(b) Performance

Rehearsal:

All rehearsals and workshops will take place on Sunday between 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. commencing on 2nd March until 16th June 2024. There will be a detailed rehearsal schedule in due course. Additional rehearsals will be added before each performance.

独一无二的本音青少年歌剧团将于2024年启动新乐季招募，将招募优秀的青少年小艺术家们参加国内外一系列重要的演出和外事活动。

本音歌剧与北京英国学校以往有多次合作。2021年10月为庆祝中奥建交50周年上演了“费加罗的婚礼”。2023年1月上演了莫扎特歌剧《魔笛》。2023年6月上演威尔歌剧⟪茶花女⟫，都在北京音乐厅举行，并取得了巨大的成功。

自2018年成立以来，本音青少年歌剧组委会沿用“整体艺术”音乐理念，邀请了来自奥地利萨尔茨堡艺术节，维也纳爱乐乐团，维也纳国立音乐大学，维也纳国家歌剧院，德国法兰克福歌剧院，拜罗伊特歌剧节，蒙特普齐亚诺艺术节等世界著名艺术机构的艺术家团队加盟，打造了莫扎特的歌剧名著⟪魔笛⟫，⟪费加罗婚礼⟫，比才的歌剧名著⟪卡门⟫，威尔第的歌剧名著⟪茶花女⟫，瓦格纳的歌剧⟪漂泊的荷兰人⟫等一系列经典作品。

作为2020年乐圣贝多芬诞辰250周年的中国指定节目，德国驻上海总领事馆文化教育处，德国驻华使领馆，奥地利大使馆文化处，奥地利驻上海领事馆文化处，歌德学院与本音歌剧团联合制作贝多芬歌剧⟪费德里奥⟫少儿版。演出额外邀请到格莱美奖获得者著名华人指挥家汤沐海大师担任指挥。

作为中国唯一的青少年歌剧团，本音歌剧团先后在北京音乐厅，中央音乐学院，上海东方艺术中心，上海1862剧场，上海大宁剧院等地登台演出。中奥建交50周年纪念演出，奥地利国庆招待会演出等一系列重大演出和外事活动上亮相。获得了奥地利大使，德国大使，马耳他大使，奥地利驻上海总领事，德国驻上海总领事及前来观看的外交使节和观众的一致赞誉。
